Working in Truro

Truro is where the studio is, which changes how a project runs

Studio Seven works from Cornelly House, School Hill, Shortlanesend, a few minutes outside Truro. For a Truro project that proximity is practical rather than sentimental: a survey is a short drive, a query on site is answered in person the same day, and deliveries can be staged around the city’s narrow approach roads without a long haul behind them.

Truro’s housing stock is unusually mixed for a city of its size. There are Georgian and Victorian terraces around Lemon Street and the city centre, substantial detached houses on the hills above the river at Kenwyn and Malpas, post-war family housing at Highertown and Threemilestone, and a steady flow of new-build and self-build on the fringes. Each demands a different starting point, and none of them is served by a kitchen chosen off a showroom floor.

Our Truro showroom is being built and opens in 2027. Until then Truro clients get exactly what everyone else does: a design consultation at the property, a measured survey, and the finished room presented in Winner 3D from their own eye height before anything is ordered.

Why Studio Seven

What we can actually claim about working in Truro

Verifiable facts only. If we cannot evidence a number, we do not print it.

A Cornwall studio, not a national franchise

We work from Cornelly House, School Hill, Shortlanesend, just outside Truro. Truro is served by the same studio and the same people who draw the room.

15 years in the KBB sector

Our founder holds a degree in interior architecture and has 15 years in kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms. The studio works with homeowners and developers on bespoke projects.

KBSA membership

Membership of the Kitchen Bathroom Bedroom Specialists Association gives you an independent standard to hold us to, and a route of recourse if something is not right.

Two-year workmanship guarantee

Installation carries a two-year workmanship guarantee backed through KBSA membership, on top of the manufacturer warranties on Schüller, Novelle and Omega cabinetry.

£5,000,000 public liability insurance

The cover level developers, architects and main contractors normally require before trades are allowed on site, in place for private houses too.

Full 3D visualisation before you commit

Every room is drawn in Winner 3D from your own eye height, so the layout, the finishes and the lighting are agreed on screen rather than discovered on site.

What Truro throws at a build

The problems Truro homes cause, and how the design answers them

Every location has a predictable set of failures worth designing out before a single unit is ordered. These are the ones we plan around here.

Narrow city terraces: one wall, one window, one chance

A Truro terrace typically gives you a long, narrow room with a single external wall, a doorway at each end and a soil stack you cannot move cheaply. Every appliance, every run of drawers and every metre of worktop competes for the same handful of positions, and a layout that looks generous on a plan can be unusable once two people are in it.

We survey the room as built, including floor level changes and the true window reveal, then test circulation in 3D before specifying. Frequently the answer is fewer, larger elements: one deep bank of drawers instead of three narrow cupboards, a single tall run rather than wall units down both sides.

  • Circulation tested at real dimensions before cabinetry is chosen
  • Soil stack, waste runs and boiler position recorded at survey
  • Tall storage concentrated on one wall to keep sight lines open
  • Lighting layered so a single-aspect room does not read as a corridor

Period fabric and conservation constraints in the city centre

Around Lemon Street and the older city core, sash windows, lath and plaster, suspended timber floors and retained chimney breasts all limit what can be altered. Raising a floor for underfloor heating moves every door and skirting with it; opening a wall meets structure nobody has drawn for decades.

Where a property is listed or in a conservation area, we specify around what cannot change and identify any consents needed before ordering, not after cabinetry has been delivered.

Access, parking and delivery in a compact city

Truro’s streets were not built for articulated deliveries. Loading restrictions, resident parking, one-way systems and steep approaches all shape when cabinetry can arrive and how it reaches the room.

We plan vehicle size, unloading point and secure on-site storage into the programme, so a kitchen is not standing on a pavement waiting for a route in.

  • Delivery vehicle size and unloading point agreed in advance
  • Loading restrictions and permits checked before dates are set
  • Dry, secure storage arranged for staged deliveries

Our process

The same five steps for every Truro project

The sequence does not change with the postcode. It is what keeps a project predictable.

  1. Design consultation

How the household uses the space, the state of the building, your budget position and timescale, and an honest answer on whether the project suits us.

  2. Survey and measured drawings

Measured as built, with structure, services, floor levels and any heritage constraints recorded. In period and converted property this stage decides everything that follows.

  3. Winner 3D design and specification

You see the room in three dimensions from your own eye height, with cabinetry, finishes, lighting and appliances specified: and you change it on screen, not on site.

  4. Ordering and programme

Schüller, Novelle or Omega cabinetry ordered against a dated programme, with trades and deliveries booked around access, other contractors and the building’s own sequence.

  5. Installation and handover

One studio installs and stays responsible, with weekly updates. Handover includes the snagging walk-through, the two-year workmanship guarantee and manufacturer warranties.

Truro questions

Answers for Truro clients

Do you work in Truro?

Yes, Truro is our home city. The studio is at Cornelly House, School Hill, Shortlanesend, a few minutes from the city centre, and our showroom in Truro opens in 2027.

How quickly can you survey a property in Truro?

Surveys are booked appointments agreed with you when you enquire. Being based on the edge of the city, a Truro survey date is a diary question rather than a travel one.

Can you design a kitchen for a narrow Truro terrace?

Yes, and it is one of the more common briefs here. The work is in circulation and storage strategy: fewer, larger elements, tall storage concentrated on one wall, and the layout tested in 3D at real dimensions before anything is ordered.

Do you work on listed or conservation-area homes in Truro?

Yes. We record what cannot be altered at survey and specify around it, identifying any consents required before cabinetry is ordered.

What does a kitchen cost in Truro?

Kitchen projects start at £12,000. Beyond that the figure follows the room size, the cabinetry range - Schüller, Novelle or Omega - worktop material, appliances and any building work. You are given a specified cost against an approved 3D design.

Are you insured and accredited to work in Truro homes?

We hold £5,000,000 public liability insurance and are KBSA members, and our installation work carries a two-year workmanship guarantee backed through that membership.

Can I visit a showroom from Truro?

Our Truro showroom is being built and opens in 2027. Until then the design consultation happens at your property and in our studio, so the specification is made against your own light and ceiling heights.

Do you offer an emergency or same-day service?

No. We are a design-led KBB studio rather than a repair service. Work is designed, programmed and installed to agreed dates; if an issue arises with our own installation, the two-year workmanship guarantee covers it.

Can you coordinate with our builder or architect?

Yes. Much of our work sits inside a wider renovation. Our project management service puts a foreman on the ground alongside the other trades and reports back to you weekly by video.

Can you manage a Truro project while I am living elsewhere?

Yes. That is what the Complete Service is for: design, installation and project management under one studio, with a foreman on site and weekly video updates so you do not need to travel to make decisions.
